Habitat For Humanity Volunteers from Boise Valley Habitat for Humanity and students from the Meridian School District’s Professional-Technical Education Program are building a brand new home for a deserving Habitat family. This four-bedroom home will be built at the Western Idaho Fair, dismantled, and reassembled at Habitat’s Palm Court Subdivision. When completed in the spring 2012 it will become the eleventh home built by this partnership of talented students, community support, and the Habitat for Humanity mission. Boise Valley Habitat for Humanity is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate poverty housing and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Founded in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has built over 500,000 houses around the world, providing more than 2 million people with safe, decent, affordable housing. Habitat offers qualified families a “hand-up” not a “hand-out”. “Partner Families” invest hundreds of hours of “sweat equity” in their home working along with community volunteers. When completed, they purchase their Habitat home with a no profit, zero-interest mortgage. Since its founding in 1990 Boise Valley Habitat for Humanity has built 47 homes housing 257 people, including 173 children. Construction is completed primarily by volunteers. Funding sources include Ada County businesses, churches, individuals, charitable foundations, and mortgage payments on existing Habitat homes.
